The selected and well-seasoned, air dried woods I use for my instruments are :
Top: | Spruce (Picea abies), Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) |
Back and sides: | Indian rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia), Maple (flamed), Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), Purpleheart (Peltogyne paniculata), Walnut (Juglans regia) |
Neck: | Cedro, Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata), Mahogany (Swietenia spp.), Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) |
Fingerboard: | African ebony (Diospyros crassiflora), Blackwood Tek (modified pine (Pinus radiata)), Black locust |
The soundhole rosettes are designed and made from wood veneers by myself.
If you always wondered how a rosette was made, click here.
For finish I use shellac, applied by hand in the traditional French polish technique, which allows a very thin and therefore not damping coating.
